These are the top 5 tools that you should have when you are interested in making Japanese food at home. I personally use all of these items and I can confirm that they are incredibly useful!

1. Sesame Seed Grinder

This is a great tool for grinding sesame seeds very easily. The way that you use it is to put the sesame seeds into the plastic chamber and spin the handle to produce a nicely grounded sesame seeds on the go! Grinding enhances the aroma and flavor of the seeds.

2. Rice Cooker

A rice cooker is a great way to make rice so that it takes the hassle out of the process. Most modern rice cookers have pre-programmed settings to cook different types of rice (ie white rice, brown rice, etc) and all that you need to do is to set up the cooker and press a couple buttons.

4. Foam Skimmer

This is a great tool when you are making Hot Pot dishes, or any kind of dish that uses a pot (ie curry). You can use this tool to skim the surface of the dish in the pot with this tool to remove that bitterness that commonly comes from the foam. Removing that foam usually enhances the flavor of your dish.

I actually use this tool in my recipe for making Japanese Curry. Check out the recipe for that here!
